<p>These evergreen perennials have rounded lobed leaves and spikes of small starry white or light pink flowers in summer. They can form wide mats of groundcover foliage, groiwng 6-12in (15-30cm) high. The green leaves have flecks of deep maroon which flush with red-bronze in the winter.</p><p>Tiarellas need a humous-rich soil with lots of peat or leaf mould. It should be well-drained but moisture-retentive. Growth will be poor if the soil dries out too much during the summer. It needs partial shade.</p><p>It is native to North America.</p>
